Hello!!! No blog yesterday as NTL (yep I like to keep their old school name instead of Virgin Media) decided to bodge up the internet.

A lot to update really. Sunday night I began my search. With a new style CV and a totally rewritten cover letter, I was armed and ready to attack the job market - and attack I did. A good few hours and 15 sent out applications later, I was done. Now I had to wait...

Monday comes and by 10am I get a response - positive too! Inviting me to an interview, fantastic I thought! The day progressed, my phone rang and rang and rang. 3 further discussions regarding my application; one I shan't continue as I read up on their organisation and let's just say it wasn't a glistening report. The other a recruitment consultant varifying my details (oh how I hate them!) and the other a recruitment consultant informing me of a job application I had made last week being successful and inviting me to an interview tomorrow (Thursday 2nd October).

There comes the snag.

Now with a lot of media talk regarding immigrants influxing the country, anyone would think that the rail services in this country and doing their best to keep us northerners, well - northerners.
A return train ticket using thetrainline website - £69.65, ouch! A return train ticket using the horrifying, money leechers that are nationalrail - £105!!! WTF! I flew to zurich/I flew to madrid both for less than both of these train prices. So I get the impression they don't want any more of us down in the capital...

Now the job interview tomorrow does worry me in the sense that I applied for a temporary role - to tide me over while I'm searching else where in London - however, the role is now permanent (GOOD!) but has a salary of £22.6 to £35k. Which gives me the impression that they are seeking someone with much greater experience than me, but will be open to people of my nature should they not have the experienced gents. What I don't want is to hop on the train at £70 and come back having wasted my time again. It is that catch 22 that I discussed many days ago in my blog.

The only financial saving benefactor is that I am doing some temporary local work from Monday next week so I will be able to recoup the costs of the travel should it all go pear shaped. The job sounds good; working for a leading energy supplier - and in all honesty, the role description sounds easily suitable to my skills. But I am just wary that I have lost out in the past roles through other applicants having greater experience than me and with rail costs being so high (taking into consideration I am nearing the completely broke line shortly) it is a gamble.

I am yet to decide if I will gamble...
